Over the course of the Family Boat Build, we
had a total of 33 individuals at the Boathouse, plus Aaron,
Curt, and Andrew, the Boathouse volunteers for this project.
The project was conducted in such a way as to allow flexible
participation. We had 22 people on the first day, 24 on the
second, 20 on the third, 24 on the fourth, and 19 on the fifth
- a daily average of ~22 participants, visitors, and staff.
Materials used (I'm sure I've missed some):
- (1) sheet of 1/2" Occume marine plywood for the frames
- (2) sheets of 1/4" Occume marine plywood for the
floorboards.
- (3) 8' 1x12s for the seats - these were 1x6s glued edge
on
- (4) 15' 1-1/4 x 1 for the keels
- (8) 16' 1/4 x 1-1/2 for the rub rails
- (16) 16' 1x2s for the wales
- (24) 16' 1x1s for the stringers
- (5) 1/2lbs spools of artificial sinew for the lashing
- (5) tubes of PL Premium adhesive for the glue
- (2) 1lbs boxes of 1-1/4" Grip-Rite screws
- (1) 1lbs box of 1-5/8" Grip-Rite screws
- (4) boxes of stainless steel staples
- (300) #6 stainless steel machine screws
- (2) gallons of Varathane - to waterproof the wooden parts
- (2) gallons of latex exterior house paint for the cloth.
- (4) 17' sheets of 70" wide 8 oz. polyester cloth
for the skins
- (4) 16' 2x8s for the strongbacks
- (40) 3" L-brackets to hold the frames in place during
construction
