All this, and I haven't even gotten to my sleep system. I'm pretty
proud of this, so pay attention: I have a 3 part system.
- The first part is a Thermarest mattress pad - it insulates you from
the ground and gives you a very comfortable sleeping surface.
- Next is a synthetic cocoon sleeping bag liner. It provides about
10 degrees of warmth, but its main purpose is to separate me from
the bivy sack. I won't be sleeping in the nude, and I have a lot of
clothes to wear for this.
- The final part is the weatherproof bivy sack - I can bed down in
a mud puddle and not get wet. The bivy has a bug net for the head,
or I can zip it completely closed and hide out from a squall.
