I have wanted to go to Mt. Rushmore since I was a little kid, and when Keely found out they had a ½ marathon, she signed us up. We landed in Rapid City and rented a car. Much like the hapless Kim family, we tried following the Google directions to pick up our race packets. We finally stopped at a ranger station and asked directions. They said 'Oh, we moved the road." And gave us the right directions.

There were 3 women in the ranger station: a ranger, a clerk, and one of those 40+ types trying to run the place with an iron fist. I told them I was going to give them a US Forest Service Fitness Quiz and asked them to sing the chorus to Smokey the Bear. Keely and I led. The ranger and the clerk sang along just fine. The brittle, bossy one had no idea what we were talking about. I told her to pack up her stuff and come back when she could sing the Smokey the Bear song.
