I am really glad I finally went to Mt Rushmore. I am kind of conflicted about it, though (and to a larger extent, Crazy Horse.) It really is a hell of a feat of engineering, art, and effort, and it created a truly unique product.

However, I am not a real big fan of people carving up mountains to make tourist attractions.

The Crazy Horse project has its own set of issues. Crazy Horse was pretty specific about him not wanting any photographs, drawings, or carvings made of his image. Now he will be over 500 feet high and carved in granite. There are other issues (besides carving up a mountain to make a tourist attraction) but what really bugs me is that Crazy Horse (a hero of mine - I wrote book reports on him for at least 3 years) was co-opted into a piece of kitsch.

Eh, whaddaya gonna do? Might as well enjoy it for what it is.
