Our first design was to use some professionally made sails that had been given to me by Virgil G (a fellow Coot.) I protested loudly that 104sqft of sail on a small canoe was too much, and that even reefed down to 84sqft would be over canvassed. I offered to make a set of sails that would look cool and be more reasonable.

As stated previously, Pat was adamant about having lots of sail area, so my new set of sails still came out to 80sqft - 64 for the main and 16 for the jib. And it worked WONDERFULLY, as you can see from our maiden voyage here.
