I followed the rigging plan for the Goat Island Skiff. The halyard is tied off to the front end of the yard, goes around the mast, and to a block (pully) at the center of the yard. It goes from the block up to the sheave at the top of the mast, then down to the cockpit. This arrangement, the halyard holds the yard tight to the mast when the sail is up.
