That's about it.

  • The whole boat - complete with rudder, leeboard, mast and sail, weighs about 30 or 40 pounds.
  • I sail with the mainsheet in my left hand and the rudder in my right. I sit so low in the boat, I can't really hike out when the boat starts heeling - all I can do is lean over as far as possible. If it gets too bad, I let out the mainsheet and spill my wind.
  • It is made from 2 sheets of 1/8 plywood and some scrap for the transom. It has a 1x3 keel, and I used 1x1 chine logs to attach the bottom to the sides and transom.
  • I used PL Premium Construction Adhesive for all the joins and I used Elmers Ultimate for attaching the reinforcing bits and the mast step.
  • I covered the outside of the hull - the bottom and sides - with some cheapo cloth I got from Goodwill and I glued it down with TiteBond II.
  • I painted it with Rustoleum.
  • I got the sail design from 'Odd Sails from Polytarp' section of The Cheap Pages
  • I made the sail from a kit from Polysail.
  • I got the rigging plans from Michael Storer's Boat Designs
  • I got almost all the hardware from Duckworks.
  • I got the plans from the Free Plans section of www.pdracer.com

I have finally decided on a name: DeBeers. I was going to call it Diamond Factory, because when you sail it, your butt is clenched so tight you feel like you could poop diamonds, but that's too literal. I like DeBeers better.
