"Señor," Paco began nervously. "Do not be angry with us. It was the Chupacabra which did this, not us."

"Chupacabra, chupacabra," Dylan spat back. "Just what the heck are you talking about? Is this some freaky Santoria ritual?"

"No señor. No person has done this thing. El Chupacabra is the goat sucker, that which lives on the blood of animals," Paco answered solemnly.

"A vampire? Like the bat?" Dylan's head began to throb as he tried to process what he was hearing and integrate it with what he was seeing. "Those things only live in Central America, Mexico, Honduras, places like that. Not all the way up here in California."

"El Chupacabra is not a vampire bat, señor. It is a creature of evil," Paco said solemnly. "It is more like a vampire from the television, only for animals, not for people." There were mummers of agreement from the other workers as they crowded closer.

"Oh, stop it!" Dylan shouted. "You expect me to believe there is some kind of supernatural undead creature out there that sucks the blood of animals? What do you think I am, some kind of stupid gringo?"
