Dylan slit open the waxy paper covering each of the
eight sticks of the dynamite and pulled out the explosive. Out of
the paper, dynamite is malleable and moldable and looks like sandy
clay. Dylan pinched off enough to make a ball about three inches in
diameter and tossed the rest down the burrow hole.
Dylan cried "I'm going hot!" and waited until
Paco called back in acknowledgement. Up until this instant, they could
just walk away and forget anything ever happened. Once Dylan armed
the explosive, there was little room to turn back.
Dylan reached down and touched the ground with his hands,
making sure he eleminated any static electricity from his body. He
then seperated the wires of the blasting cap and connected them to
the wires leading to the truck. Blasting caps are powerful, sensitive
explosives, and Dylan was sweating wioth more than the heat as he
carefully inserted the cap into the ball of dynamite, just like his
dad had taught him many years ago.
Paco watched anxiously from the truck. He knew not
touch the wires, because even the slightest amount of static electricity
could set the blasting cap off, killing or at the very least, severly
injuring Dylan.
A three inch ball of dynamite is a lot of explosive
and deserves to be handled carefully. Dylan leaned over the burrow
and slowly lowered the now active explosive charge into the hole.
It went down about ten feet before coming to rest. Just for good measure,
Dylan collapsed the mouth of the burrow to enclose the dynamite and
gasoline, hoping this would create a more powerful explosion. He then
ran back to the truck.
