Depoe Bay Boat Show 2014 The Depoe Bay Boat Show has always been on the third weekend in April. Every few years, that means it falls on Easter Weekend - and that was the case this year.
The third weekend in April can be a little rough, too. It snowed on us one year, this year was just wind and rain on Saturday.
One thing about Oregonian boat people: We ain't made out of sugar - rain is just rain.
Saturday had an Easter Egg Hunt for the kiddies. Never pass up a photo op with a celebrity.
This was one of the neater boats I saw - a self designed kayak ("I had a bunch of leftover wood") painted up as a salmon.
We'd get breaks in the squalls and people would come out from beneath the canopies to talk boat.
One of the highlights of the show is the Crab Feed put on by the Chamber of Commerce. Dungeness crab is fine food.
In the evening, the Chamber puts on a "Thank You" snack for the exhibitors. Jack Brown (in the center) has been the mover and shaker of the Boat Show for years. He'll be handing the reigns over to a new guy for next year.
I usually have a tradition of taking one of the new boats out around the 1/2 mile buoy on Sunday morning, but not this year. Poseidon was still a little angry.
Things were nicer inside the harbor. Because of the rain the day before, I hadn't put any of our boats in the water. Today was going to be different. I ferried our pink canoe, Aurora, loaded with life jackets, over to the dock . The display dock is new this year - the old one got wiped out by the tsunami generated by the earthquake in Japan on 3/11/2013. The day was getting going - our favorite Canadian, Jamie, played the pipes and ushered in the new day.

There's something you don't see every day - a Great Pelican. Richard Green's original intent had been to outfit the cabin with an easy chair and fireplace, but he's adjusted that. I first met Richard while sailing the Texas 200 in 2008 - it is a small world for small boat sailors.
Kenyon - a local - and his significant other, helped me out by ferrying Daisy over.
Princess Jewell blessed both Daisy and Aurora while the intrepid Bob L and Coot King John K look on.
That's what a Lazy Weekend Canoe does best: Haul families.
These guys were pretty cool. First time in a canoe for both of them.
