I was fixed, but Jason was not, and it was getting dark. We finally settled on making a swinging leeboard for Jason out of a canoe paddle I had. This was a real feat of engineering - cannibalizing oarlocks to use as pivot points, making sure the paddle wouldn't rotate and act as a break instead of a leeboard, Plus, because it was often very shallow, the leeboard had to swing up when it hit something and had to be held forward when we were under sail.

By now, it was about to get dark, so we had to find a place to pull over outside of the ICW so the barges wouldn't run us over during the night. We actually had to backtrack about a mile to find a spot.
