We got to the point where we needed to round one of the islands and leave the ICW, and make a run for Panther Reef (28 15.240N, 096 40.650W) then take South Pass at 1st Chain (28 17.740N, 096 36.730W) and camp at Army Hole (28 21.550N, 096 29.300W)
Well, I couldn't make it. When we came around the island, the wind just pushed me over into some dredging equipment. The bay was REALLY rough, and I just couldn't make it in.Jason stayed back with me and we watched as all the boats, including John W, sailed off.
Jason and I were on our own - unfamiliar water, no support, the weather was worsening, and we had a LONG way to go. Just as we decided to set out to sail down the ICW as far we as could, then camp for the night, who comes back but John W! he said he couldn't leave us and so even though he could have sailed with the others to Army Hole, he decided to brave the unknown with us.
John W is a true, blue, hero. I don't know if I could have done that.
