The first thing I did was attach a motor mount to my sailboat. This is a travesty, I know, but I feel it had to be done. A Newport 16 has a transom cutout on the starboard side - that is where most people mount the motor, just clamping it on the transom. I don't like that solution as it leves a bunch of the motor inside the cabin where it catches on the mainsheet. Plus, you can't raise the motor all the way out of the water. (I don't expect to use it lowered this far, but it is nice to know I can if I need to.)
