This worked great, we pulled the boat back about 5 feet and the keel dropped out nice and easy. The boat was more or less balanced on the trailer, still attached at the front by means of the trailer winch and still attached at the back to Greg's truck.
The really hard part was cutting through the 1/8th inch stainless steel cable with a pair of tin snips. I should have invested in a pair of cable cutters.
