It is always neat to show visitors around Oregon. Earlier this year, a friend from Texas came up and participated in the Columbia150 with me, and I got to canoe with him down the Willamette River as well.

One of the things I really enjoyed was showing Mik the different trees he uses in building his boats. He never got to see them in their natural habitat before. I showed him how to recognize Douglas Fir (called Oregon in the rest of the world,) Hemlock (often sold as fir, since they grow in the same area) Ponderosa Pine (don't know what they market that as) and Spruce, as well as some other native Oregon plants.

G'day, Mik, and cheers. Thanks for coming.
