That 'hell of a day at sea' turned into a miserable night on shore - especially when I discovered my very expensive "Waterproof yet breathable" bivysack was neither. After 14 hours of trying to sleep in what was essentially a sack filled with water, I took my sopping gear to the covered pavilion at the visitor's center of Cape Lookout Lighthouse and spent 7 hours watching it dry. I passed the time by 'yarning' - unwrapping the fibers that make up a rope (an old practice sea captains used to do to make sure their people had busywork to keep 'em occupied.) |
