We were supposed to meet at Ayers Reef where one of the TX200 participants has a fishing cabin and was going to cook us all lunch. Ayers reef is very shallow except for a narrow channel, and many boats got stuck.

One was our very own Jon, got stuck in the oyster shallows just beyond that ridge you see there. Both Gordo and Jason (seen here) swam across the channel to help.I knew Jon was wearing sandals (bad choice) so I sent my reef socks across with Jon.

Off in the distance, you see Bobby's boat stuck hard aground with no escape - he had to go 1/2 mile into the stiff wind or ~2 miles downwind but in ever shallower waters. Remember, he also had his 14-year-old daughter, Kristin, aboard.
