If you want to do something like this, perhaps you can benefit from my experience:

  • Don't break the bank on the boats themselves. If someone wants a professionally built boat made from top quality materials, let 'em buy the boat from professional boat builders.
  • Be prepared: Slops, paint, sandpaper, disposable paint brushes, and paint containers, are just the start. You need soap and water. You need places for kids who lose interest to go. You need more than one adult. You need a place to do the work and a place to store the boats. Think the entire project through.
  • Don't get freaked out about quality or professionalism. The value in the product is that it was done by kids. Keep repeating that: The value is that it was done by kids. You'll understand.
  • Have fun.
  • Get Started - every day that passes without you getting involved is just a day that passes.

Good luck!
