That tree with shiny leaves is called a Poisonwood Tree (Metopium toxiferum, but no link) - David warned us to stay well away as it is much more toxic than our Poison Oak (Toxicodendron diversilobum), which also has shiny leaves.

David said he has seen people 'look like they were burned with acid' when they stood under a Poisonwood tree for shelter during a rainstorm. Apparently the rainwater gets toxic as it hits the leaves and bark and burns you good when it drips on you.
