I have always wanted to make a Viking style boat. The
shape is just cool. I belong to a user group called viking-ship-plans
on Yahoo groups and one of the members had taking drawings from a Viking
canoe (called a faering) that was recovered with the Gokstad ship (http://itsa.ucsf.edu/~snlrc/britannia/maldon/gokstad.html),
interpreted them and designed a 24 foot version using Carlson Design's
free boat design program Hulls (www.carlsondesign.com).
I took his design, and shrunk it to 16 feet long, 44 inches wide so
I could build out of 4x8 sheets of plywood.
