There are two tombs open for viewing. The tomb of the Wan Li emperor was opened and excavated in the 1950s. Wan Li is described as "The clever and willful emperor who ruled from 1573 to 1620 and withdrew from government." The underground sections of his tomb are open, but Parker said there wasn't much there, so we chose to come to this one, the tomb of Yong Le, 3rd Ming emperor (1402-1424) and architect/master planner of the Forbidden City. |
