I think this is the opposite of Bonsia (also invented in China) where to take a tree and twist it into poses of frozen agony. Here they just let the tree grow, and then put in supports when it gets so big it will hurt itself. I will try this on my willow tree some day. It fell down in an ice storm and never stood all the way back up.
