As we got closer to the top, we saw more and more people. Streams of them, each one more ridiculously dressed than the last. People in river socks, people in sandals, people in bell bottoms and tennis shoes. They would ask "How long have you been hiking out?" and I would wheeze "4 hours. Are we almost there?" They would look at me like I was pulling their leg, and then turn around and blithely trundle off. Fools!
